 System

Phoenix, capital of Arizona - 1.5 million inhabitants (4.2 million in metropolitan area)

Light rail system "Valley Metro Light Rail":

- 46.5 km, 41 stops
- revenue service from 01 Jan 2009 between Montebello/19th Ave and Sycamore Main St
- extended east to Mesa Drive on 22 Aug 2015 (4.5 km)
- Montebello/19th Ave to 19th Ave/Dunlap opened on 19 March 2016 (5.1 km)
- 50th St/Washington station added 25 April 2019
- a 3 km eastern extension along Main Street from Mesa Drive to Gilbert Road opened on 18 May 2019.
- on 27 Jan 2024, the line was extended further northwest from 19th Ave/Dunlap to Metro Parkway (Thelda Williams Transit Center)
(2.6 km).

Through Phoenix city centre, between Roosevelt and 24th Street, the light rail line runs along parallel streets, southbound on 1st Avenue and Jefferson Street, and northbound on Washington Street and Central Avenue.

PHX Sky Train™ - opened 8 April 2013 between Metro's 44th St/Washington St station and the airport's Terminal 4, extended to Terminal 3 on 8 Dec 2014, and eventually to Rental Car Center (3.5 km) on 20 Dec 2022.

In late 2017, construction of the Tempe Streetcar began, which opened on 20 May 2022 (4.8 km, partly without catenary). [Project Website]
