At Pinar de Chamartín Line 1 links with Line 4 at the same level, there are two side platforms for arrivals and 1 island platform for departures.

Metro Ligero Line ML1 terminates underground on a viaduct running through the high vestibule.

The intermediate station at Calle Bambú serves an area between the railway station and the M30 motorway, it will be more important when the so-called 'Operación Chamartín' is carried out, which includes construction above the railway tracks.

At Chamartín, a huge transfer station was built for a total of 4 metro lines (including the existing Line 10), with Line 1 stopping on level -4. The parallel trackbed is meant for the future Line 11 extension.

Plaza de Castilla is flanked by the two inclined KIO towers, also known as Puerta de Europa. There are 3 metro stations below ground, the present bus terminal is being put underground now too.

At Cuatro Caminos, the former road viaduct has recently been dimolished and the square recuperated by the city.

Between Ríos Rosas and Iglesia, Line 1 is crossed by Line 7, but unlike Canal on Line 2, no transfer station was added here for the busy Line 1.

Like most of the older stations on small-profile lines, Antón Martín has been refurbished recently in the same style applied for all new stations. Walls are now clad in coloured enamelled panels instead of the former Paris-style tiles.

The Line 1 extension from Portazgo to Miguel Hernández was the first section to use coloured enamelled panels for wall cladding which has since become the standard for all stations.

The Metro's Central Control Centre is located within the station complex of Alto del Arenal.

Special Features of Line 1:

Total length: ~23.8 km, 33 stations

Small profile line with 90 m long platforms (6-car trains of class 2000 in service) - platforms were extended from 60 m to 90 m during the 1960s.
