Line A of the 'Metropolitana leggera di Parma' will link the Park & Ride Facilities in the north to Campus Universitario in the south. The system will be similar to the Porto Metro, with low-floor trams running underground through the city centre. Tunnelling will be carried out with tunnel-boring machines (TBMs).

Total length Line A - 11.5 km (approx. 50% underground)

Rolling stock - 30 m long, 2.4 m wide

Scheduled opening - 2010

Later Line C will be added to connect the railway station to the airport, running existing railway tracks which become available once the new high-speed link has been completed.
