The city of Shenyang lies some 500 km northeast of Beijing. Aug. 2006: Line 1 Phase 1 (from west to east) 28 km, 22 stations: - Shisanhaojie, Zhongyangdajie, Qihaojie, Sihaojie, (that is the west extension of L1, construction start in late 2006 and expected to be opened in 2010) 5.8 km, 4 stations - Zhangshi, Shenxinlu, Huanghailu, Honghubeijie, Zhonggongjie, Qigongjie, Baogongjie, Tiexiguangchang (Line 5), Yufengbeijie, Shenyangzhan (Line 3), Nanjingjie, Nanshi, Qingniandajie (Line 2), Huaiyuanmen, Zhongjie (Line 4), Xiaoshizijie, Pangjiangjie (Line 5), Limingwenhuagong. (construction began in late 2005 and expected to be opened in 2010) 22.16 km, 18stations Line 2 Phase 1 (from north to south) 19.3 km, 17 statoins, construction start in late 2006 and expected to be opened in 2010: Songshanlu, Xianglushanlu, Youyibinguan, Beilinggongyuan, Chongshanlu (line 5), Qishanlu, Shenyangbeizhan, Shifuguangchang (line 3), Zhongshanlu, Qingniandajie (Line 1), Caidianta, Wenhualu (line 5), Wentilu (line 4), Hunheqiao, Hunhebao, Qichecheng, Shijiguangchang. Nov. 2005: Construction on the No.1 subway project in Shenyang (7.2 mill. inh.), the most important industrial city in northeast China's Liaoning Province, began and the project is expected to be finished at the end of 2009. With a length of 22.2 km, the subway project will start from Zhangshi in Shenyang economic and technological development zone in the west and end at Liming Cultural Museum in the east, with 18 stops. Shenyang will built two west-east lines, two south-north lines, a loop line and two branch lines in the coming years, which stretch 182.5 km in total. Construction will also begin on another subway project, the No.2 subway line, in late 2006. Aug. 2005: The local authority announced that it had received approval from the central government to build a metro system. The long-awaited Shenyang subway lines will stretch a total of 182.5 kilometres. The local government will carry out the first stage of the project from 2005 to 2012. Construction of the two underground lines, Line 1 and Line 2, with an estimated length of 40.85 kilometres will need an investment of 17.18 billion yuan (US$ 2.11 billion). Construction of Line 1 will begin in November, and construction of Line 2 is set for October 2006. As one of the key cities in Northeast China, Shenyang had a population of 7.2 million at the end of last year. (Source: China Daily) |
