Initially and according to the Kawasaki metro website, construction between Moto-Sumiyoshi and Shin-Yurigaoka was planned to start during the 2002 fiscal year (which in Japan means sometime between 1 April 2002 and 31 March 2003). Construction was planned to require 8 years. Completion was scheduled for the 2010 fiscal year. But in June 2003, the mayor of Kawasaki announced that the project will be put on hold. Construction will not start within the next 5 years. Tentative station names for Kawasaki's planned 15.4km metro line, from west to east, are as follows: Shin-Yurigaoka
The second-stage 6.2km extension shown on the map extending eastward from Moto-Sumiyoshi would terminate at Kawasaki station. |
